Probably the most important new feature of the Canon G12 is employment of Canon’s HS (high sensitivity) system (combination of sensor and processing engine) which migrates from the EOS line. There are additional new shooting modes like HDR that takes several photos then combines them for greater detail, better exposure. Controls are absolutely second to none. Dedicated EV and ISO dials are wonderful. The new front control dial is great. This is an excellent camera… it takes great pictures, great video, and has many and user friendly options.
Here’s what one customer had to say about Canon G12
“I’m a serious photographer who knows what she’s doing. I wanted a small, light weight point and shoot to have with me when I don’t want to carry around my big SLR. The swivel LED, the quickness of changing controls, built-in viewfinder, and most of all the longer telephoto aspect of the lens were the deciding factors. As a conclusion, I am happy with this camera.”

The best thing about this camera? You can give it to your 6 year old to take underwater pics and not worry about it, how many other “real” cameras can you do that with?! The buttons have been designed for waterproof operations and the zoom in and out is done through buttons on the back of the camera rather than with the shutter button lever like with other Canon cameras. The controls on the Canon Powershot D10 are conveniently arranged, and easy to use, and the associated icons displayed are both informative and intuitive. I’m very impressed with this camera. It feels very sturdy, takes great photos, and seems very easy to use.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Canon Powershot D10…
“I’ve had my Cannon Powershot D10 for about 3 months. It has been 4-wheeling, hiking, swimming, boating, and camping. It has also been to weddings, parties, and chasing children. I have been very happy with the photo quality – sometimes even amazed at how good my pictures turn out. I am confident it can handle whatever I dish out – and hopefully whatever my 2-year old puts it through!”

Overall this is a great looking camera and it does work as advertised. The auto functions seem a bit slower then similar cameras in this price range, but many of the other built-in features Sony has put into this model make up for it. The picture and video quality is excellent in and out of the water… even in low light conditions. With high megapixel quality, HD capabilities and water resistant, this camera can still transition without hesitation from the water to the beach to dinner.
Here is what one owner had to say about the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10 …
“We took this camera out to Hawaii with us for a family trip. We had so much fun with it we took it hiking, swimming, atv riding, etc. We even took some underwater pictures which were hilarious! Great camera!”

Digital Underwater Camera

Waterproof digital cameras exist because shooting images has now expanded to include underwater scenes, portraits, and even movies. There simply is no stopping the creativity and imagination of people who want to capture a moment…even if it’s dozens of feet under the sea. If you want to invest in an underwater digital camera, you can use it in plenty of fun, creative ways to take photos or movies. There are just a couple of things you have to remember first prior to purchasing one.
First, make sure your camera has a warranty, and that you fill it up and send it back to the shop. Look over the conditions carefully because you may need to bring your camera back to where you bought it for troubleshooting, and you’d want the best conditions for your money’s worth. Remember that the words “waterproof” and even “shockproof” cannot fully guarantee that your camera is indestructible.
You also would want to invest in an underwater digital camera that has a viewing screen. This is especially important if you are underwater and holding the camera at an arm’s length to capture an image. If you are wearing goggles or a dive mask, you can’t press the camera’s view finder to your face as it will come out blurry, given the sheet of glass between your eyes and the lens. A viewing screen can also help you review the shot you just took and see if you can take a better picture or if it’s a keeper.
Go for an underwater digital camera that is good for submerging for at least ten feet. This is a good enough depth to get clear images of marine life or swimming pool action while the camera parts are still protected. With the depth indicator, you can easily adjust lighting settings and other modes for photography or videos. Professional divers and photographers can invest in bigger depths of up to fifty, but if you are a casual and non-pro photographer, ten is your best bet.
You will also need a flash. Some underwater digital cameras default into an available light setting, but a flash ensures you capture a clear image especially in low-lit watery depths. If you want to take videos of underwater scenes to make into a movie, then also check for the video settings of the camera. Some already come with a movie-making feature so it’s easier to use underwater. Also, to avoid unnecessary fumbling around underwater for buttons to push, look for a digital camera with a tap technology. This feature allows you to simply tap the side or the screen of your camera when you want to take a photo so you get the most of the moment and don’t miss out on great visual treats. This will also keep your other hand free to swim about or adjust settings whenever you need to.
Lastly, but equally importantly, check the camera for uploading compatibility with your computer. See if the memory size, operating system, and photo upload capacity match. This will ensure faster uploads and more time for you to enjoy your camera!
So you have purchased a digital underwater camera and want to use it right away. What now? Beyond taking self-portraits of you grinning while a huge water bubble comes out of your nose (an unfortunate phenomenon making the rounds of social media sites nowadays), you can use your nifty new gadget in plenty of fun, unique and creative ways. The best thing about it is, you do not even need expensive peripherals which studio and traditional photography require! You simply need to know how your underwater digicam works. Below are three top ways you can have fun with it.
1. Take underwater portraits. Unlike the previously mentioned hope-for-the-best-self-portraits-shot-at-an-arm’s-length, you can use your underwater digicam to take flattering, personal, and highly creative shots of you and your friends and loved ones. To successfully do this, you must first learn the intricacies of your camera’s settings. Most waterproof cams have an underwater mode which needs to be enabled for it to shoot pictures properly when submerged. If the default setting is normal, this means you have to manually set it to underwater or you will end up with a lot of blurred portraits.
If your camera has a portrait setting, then it’s best to use that, as well. Some cams are built with a face-detection feature so you can just point and shoot at people when they are swimming underwater, and voila! Instant portrait underwater.
2. Shoot action photos or movies underwater. Once you have learned how to use your digital underwater camera settings, you can easily make albums upon albums of action shots. For movies, you can simply switch to video mode and start filming. For still photography, there are good ways to capture the action without worrying about lag time. Some waterproof digicams offer a “tap” feature. This allows you to simply give your camera screen or body a tap when you need to take picture so you don’t have to fumble around for buttons and lose precious time. Other models also go into stand-by mode so you can just keep click away when that bright clownfish or school of parrot fish swim by you when you’re underwater.
3. Capture images in all kinds of underwater light. Whether it is just in the pool or in open water, a waterproof digicam can help you capture the most interesting images without the help of artificial studio lights. Many cameras are now equipped with technology to shoot images even in low light underwater. Some even come with a LED lighting feature so you can have that much-needed extra illumination even if you’re more than a hundred meters deep under the sea.
There are dozens of ways for you to enjoy your digital underwater camera, as long as you follow instructions and make sure to take care of it. If you are still deciding on the best brand to purchase, make sure to review all the features, pros and cons, and read some customer-written assessment of the different models so you can get the most out of your money.
